  • I used to get food from this place all the time when it was under different management (and had a HARDER name to pronounce) and am glad to say I am still a fan!

I stood by my simple rule: "if it is Asian and has chashews in it...get it" and was not disappointed with the food. The service, on the other hand, was the worst that I have encountered with the IDS. I should add, however, that it was MY service only AND I think there wasn't enough staff in the joint to handle the dozen patrons.

On a sidenote, I did see the father of my good friend "E" at Hai Quynh and was surprised since I always thought of him as a burger kind of guy (read that as...I couldn't believe he'd allow himself to give money to the Vietnamese).

SOME ADVICE: While the other IDS Members took advantage of the daily special (only $5.50), I ordered off the menu for a buck cheaper and only missed out on the egg roll.

  • As was stated by both Shawn and Husker Du, the service was pretty shabby at Hai Quynh. But then again, as far as I could tell there was only one dude working. I'm not completely sure, but I think he was doing all the cooking too, so I'll give him points for that. As bad as it was, India House takes the cake on lousy service in my book.

The food was pretty good, but let's not kid ourselves - it was no Phainam, the standard by which all other non-chinese asian restaurants are judged. Yes, the bar has been set THAT high.

Overall, The lunch special price of $5.50 was a pretty good deal. Just don't go there if you're in a hurry.

ADDED BONUS: There was a bottle of some brown sauce on the table that really rocked a camel's ass.
