I'm not a big fan of Italian food as a whole, especially pasta, so I went in pretty much thinking this would not be one of my favorite IDS lunch spots.
It did not disappoint.
All the IDSers ordered the lunch buffet, and at $5.99(ish) it was a fair deal. There were a few selections - chicken, pasta, fish, bread, soup, pizza - and although admittedly I am not an Italian connoisseur, I do know that pizza on a buffet should probably be at least halfway warm. I only like my pizza cold if it's accompanied by an Old Style & a hangover.
For some reason this restaurant as a whole gave off a "sterile" vibe to me.
Most of the rest of the crew seemed to enjoy this place though, so if'n you like Italian food it'll probably be an decent experience.
ADDED BONUS: The waitress gave me an extra Andes Mint. Yeah...she wanted me.
The best/last/only Italian buffet that I can remember was at my wedding...and to be honest, I'm not 100% sure if the food was all that good.
Gia's was an average experience at best...nothing really stood out.
Now, I hear that dinner (not the lunch buffet) is their bread and butter...and I can accept that and might return for it. I guess after Phainam and Los Portales, I was looking for something to knock my socks off like they both did.
SOME ADVICE: No need to worry about losing your socks unless the pizza is served piping hot.
Welcome to the official blog of the International Dining Society. Originally founded in 1932 by two brothers, the IDS was resurrected in 2005 and has been going strong ever since! The goal...to find interesting lunch options on which to dine and to spread the word of said options to the masses who struggle with the day to day choices of McDonald's versus Burger King.
